INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Under the supervision of Metropolitan Community Services-T.O.U.C.H. interns and/or volunteers can expect to receive work experience during their assignment in one or more of the following areas:

Position Description

  • Conduct client interviews for psychosocial assessments to identify client needs (e.g. housing, clothing, furniture, food, etc.);

  • Maintain a case load and provide individual/family supportive counseling and intervention;
  • Organize and compile resource lists for programs offered by the organization;

  • Make resource referrals to partner agencies and other community agencies;

  • Provide information of programs to clients, schedule appointments;

  • Monitor services received or provided to clients;

  • Maintain records and complete documents for services provided;

  • Conduct group facilitation for pre-release and post-release mentoring programs using cognitive behavioral therapy techniques;

  • Assist in conducting workshops/classes in computer literacy, education, job readiness, mentorship;

  • Visit Ohio Correctional Facilities for reentry events, partnerships, and mentoring programs;

  • Conduct evidence based research for grant applications and grant writing;

  • Prepare reports, charts, service directories, and manuals for measurements and evaluations;

  • Advocate for clients to the general public and legislative branches;

Responsibility

An intern and/or volunteers will be required to demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication at all times. An intern is required to follow the Internship Policy and Procedures. An intern and/or volunteer will be required to understand the mission statement and policies of the agency. Interns and/or volunteers will be required to understand the framework of ethical-decision making and how to apply principles of critical thinking to those frameworks in practice, research, and policy arenas.
